Moving Tips for Foreigners Peak Season (Feb–Mar): How to Avoid Extra Costs

Moving in Korea involves contracts, utilities, and administrative procedures. February–March is peak season due to school and job changes, causing studio shortages and moving costs to rise—often 1.5 times higher than off-season.

During this period, rushing into contracts can lead to disputes. In Korea, only what is clearly written in the contract is legally valid, so carefully check clauses on deposit refunds, utility settlements, and special conditions.

Moving costs vary. Moving trucks usually provide only the vehicle, while moving companies charge extra based on labor, distance, floor level, elevator access, and amount of belongings. Comparing multiple quotes in advance helps reduce unnecessary expenses.

When moving out, all management fees and utility bills must be settled. Cleaning or repair fees can only be charged if stated in the contract.

Before moving, apply early for utility transfers and take photos of meter readings. After moving, foreigners must update their address and foreigner registration within 14 days. Learning local waste separation and noise rules can also prevent fines.

If possible, avoid peak season or choose mid-month dates. Careful preparation and written records help ensure a smooth and dispute-free move in Korea.
