Starting January 2, 2026, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea has expanded the mandatory employment information reporting system for foreigners to online reporting. Foreigners no longer need to visit the Immigration Office in person. Instead, they can conveniently report their employment information on the HiKorea website operated by the Ministry of Justice. This change will save both time and money.

Employment information reporting is required when new employment status is established. It is also mandatory to report changes in annual income, occupation, industry, or workplace information. This reporting requirement begins with alien registration, i.e., reporting the place of residence. Any changes to employment-related information afterward require re-reporting.

Reporting is required for foreigners engaged in income-generating activities. This includes holders of professional and work visas from E-1 to E-10. Holders of F-2, F-4, F-6, H-2, D-7, D-8, and D-9 visas are also subject to this requirement. Reporting is required when beginning economic activity or changing jobs.

The reporting process is simple. First, visit the HiKorea website (https://www.hikorea.go.kr/). Log in using a joint certificate or simple authentication. From the e-civil service menu, select “Residence Management” and “Report or Change Employment Information.” Enter your workplace information, occupation, annual income, and start or change date. Attach relevant documents, such as your business registration certificate, and submit. No additional visit is required after submission. You can check the status on “My Page.”

There are some important points to keep in mind: You must report within 15 days of the change. This is based on the actual date of change, not the contract date. Failure to report or delay may result in a fine. Reporting unauthorized employment may be considered a violation of your residency status. Detailed obligations vary depending on your visa type. Advance verification is crucial. Even if you have remaining time remaining in your stay, you must immediately report any changes to your employment information.

This system will reduce the administrative burden on foreigners while also ensuring they are more clearly compliant with their legal obligations. The expansion of online reporting has improved convenience. However, you remain responsible for complying with deadlines and entering accurate information.
