The Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) is an official government training program run by the Ministry of Justice. Its official name is the Korea Immigration and Integration Program. It is designed to help foreigners settle into Korean society. It focuses on Korean language education while also learning about Korean culture, laws, and social systems. It‘s not simply a language course. It aims to foster long-term residence and independence.

Eligible participants are legal foreign residents with an Alien Registration Card (ARC). While it’s not mandatory, it‘s crucial for those planning a long-term stay. It’s considered a de facto requirement, especially for those preparing for F-2 residency, F-5 permanent residency, or naturalization. Completing the KIIP exempts you from the written exam when applying for naturalization. You may also be exempt from the interview, known as the most rigorous process. Furthermore, the certificate is valid for life. TOPIK scores are valid for two years and require renewal. In contrast, the KIIP certificate cannot be renewed. There are also benefits for visa applications. Applicants for the Points-Based Residence Status (F-2-7) can receive up to 20 bonus points. Korean language proficiency is exempted from various residence and permanent residency applications. This simplifies the process and reduces the burden of time and money.

The curriculum is divided into five levels: Level 0 is for beginners. Level 5 focuses on understanding Korean society. Levels are determined through a pre-assessment. Submitting a TOPIK score allows students to skip certain levels. An attendance rate of 80% or higher is required for all levels. Only after meeting this requirement can students take the comprehensive assessment.

Course formats vary. Weekday classes are the norm, while weekend classes are also offered. Online courses are also available, allowing both working and self-employed individuals to participate. Tuition is relatively reasonable, with three semesters per year.
