Korea’s ‘Culture Day on every Wednesday! Cultural Benefits now to Foreigners
The Korean government has expanded ‘Culture Day’ to every Wednesday to expand the cultural lives of both citizens and foreigners. Previously, the system was operated only on the last Wednesday of every month. However, starting in April 2026, various cultural discounts and programs will be available every Wednesday.
‘Culture Day’ is a cultural policy implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2014. Its purpose is to help citizens participate in cultural activities more easily. Free or discounted benefits are provided at various cultural facilities, such as movie theaters, museums, art galleries, and performance venues. This policy expansion signifies a commitment to moving cultural activities away from being treated as special events. It is an attempt to integrate cultural life into everyday routines.
The government expects that this expansion will encourage more citizens and foreigners to participate in cultural activities. In particular, it is expected to provide new opportunities for international students and foreign workers residing in Korea. Foreigners who previously could not participate in cultural activities due to costs or a lack of information will also be able to experience a variety of programs.
