For international students studying in Korea, visa extension is a crucial administrative procedure repeated every semester. In particular, missing the visa expiration date can lead to illegal stay, so preparing in advance is essential. Basic required documents include an application for extension of stay, passport, Alien Registration Card (ARC), certificate of enrollment, academic transcript, proof of residence, proof of financial capability, and receipts for fee payments. If residing in a school dormitory, a dormitory confirmation letter may serve as proof of residence.

Students who have completed their graduate coursework and only have their thesis remaining must submit a research or thesis progress plan written by their academic advisor, along with a certificate of coursework completion. Students registered for more than 24 semesters may also be required to submit a statement of reasons for delayed graduation and an academic plan.

Proof of financial capability is generally submitted via a bank balance certificate. However, Government Scholarship (GKS) recipients may be exempt from fees and the submission of financial proof. Since there are cases where certain documents are waived even for students with excellent academic records, it is advisable to check with the university‘s International Office or immigration authorities.

Students from certain countries may also be required to submit a tuberculosis test certificate. Whether submission is required may vary depending on the instructions provided at the time of application.
